Advertising has a large influence on our lives. It has an influence on the cars we drive, the clothes we wear, and the food we eat. TV commercials paint an unrealistic picture of how good life is once you own their product. These days, marketing messages are more sophisticated, more pervasive, and are aimed directly at their targets.Do you think people are too influenced by advertising?
How are your shopping habits influenced by advertising?

I think the most important communication medium is the television set.
ReplyDeleteSince your invention, TV set has been occupying an important space in time’s family.
Even now with internet auger, people continue seeing TV at home, to rest, relax, or to know what is happening in the whole world. So, the producers of TV programs know that, and they use their commercial spaces to advice people what they have to buy or to use, so you can be influenced for all kind of advertisements.
In children case, they love to see commercials and then ask father for things they saw on TV programs. But, not only children do that, for example, in my case, I like to probe sometimes, if any product, or store, or place, is as good as they say. Therefore, I think I may be being influenced by commercial TV.
Trina
I think there are two kinds of people: one’s who are high influenced by advertising and buy everything they see, even if they don’t need it, and one’s who are few influenced by advertising, because the majority of times they don’t buy what they see on advertisements. But in general, advertising helps some people to decide to buy thinks that without seeing it in a TV commercial, Internet pop-up or billboard, they probably shouldn’t buy it.
ReplyDeleteIn my case, I think my shopping habits aren’t influenced by advertising, because when I need to buy something that could be attractive to me, I found more information over the Internet or I could buy it immediately, but in general I try to don’t buy thinks that I don’t need.
Lucy
I agree with Trina in the case of children. When Christmas season is arriving, TV commercials are directed to children likes…mainly toys: cars for boys, dolls for girls and electronic games for both….and then children begin their Santa’s Letters influenced by the advertising they saw in TV commercials and inspired by the heroes they saw in their favorite programs.
ReplyDeleteLucy
I agree with Lucy everybody is influenced by advertising because advertising is in everywhere. the system values in our society said if you have a lot of things you are more important and successful. the belief to get stronger advertising influence in some case in negative way like shopaholics people that think happiness is have expensive thing I agree with Lucy too when said that always have been two kinds of people one that to live to buy and another that buy to live, I don't think so that happiness must to depend of material things, advertising have a place in a world help you to make a decision in wide range options.
ReplyDeleteNatala
About the comment about the persuasion of TV is very important to teach the young people to distinguish between thin line selfcontrol and the dependence because many important things in life are free.

Do you think people are too influenced by advertising?
ReplyDeleteI am convinced most of people are affected by advertising. When you turn on the TV or the radio, almost all the programs are interrupted by commercials. If you go to the movie, before the film starts, people are submitted to several minutes of advertising. When you are driving, the people in the car can see many different ad fences. Even when you are in the supermarket, you have to choose among many different products brands.
The ads help people to know about the new products (goods and services) in the market and their main properties. However, the competition is so strong that every day the advertisers are trying to attract the attention of more and more people, from all ages, that they use techniques sometimes harmful to the people minds.
There are a lot of studies about how the ads influence people in many ways, and it is probed the ads contain hidden messages that go directly to the people’s subconscious. In that way, many people become victims of the ads. Then, they want to have more than they need, want to have the things the commercials promote, prefer a specific brand that is assumed to be better, or even change their behavior and acquire vices to look in fashion.
In general, when I see people at the street, look the cell phones they use, the cars they drive, the clothes they wear, the kind of foods they eat, and so on, I conclude the majority of people are too influence by ads.

How are your shopping habits influenced by advertising?
ReplyDeleteI try to buy those things I need. Most of the time, I don’t pay attention to brands. I prefer more to buy things of quality than because they are fashionable. However, as Lucy says, almost all of us are influenced from one way or another by ads. Sometimes, I have bought gifts to my kids for Christmas season or birthday because they have watched something on TV and they want to have it. Of course, I try to be rational about the things and their costs. I have taught them that many things showed in the commercials are not like they show them, and other consideration, that is important to me, is that they have to deserve what they want, being good people and carry on with the rules and with their duties.
Finally, I agree with Natala when she says that many important things in life are free.
People should learn to be happy for what they are and not for what they have. Properties are important to people feel save but to have more than one needs is vanity.
The advertising have been always, the best form by sell the products in this century exist many kinds of adverting like TV commercials, magazine ads. Billboards and Internet pop-ups. I believe that everybody is very influence by the advertising because in our jobs we need used Internet, when we go our houses we watch TV. And the TV tells us; what buy, like, and why, even if we don’t need any products, we believe that we need.
ReplyDeleteEn general I think that everybody is influence by the advertising, my shopping habits too; I buy clothes, shoes by the brand. In general the brands tell me if this product is good quality or not, the big brands of clothes promote their products through advertising.

I agree with my partners, people shouldnt believe everything they see or what they hear, and not be fooled by false promises that any product or activity is better than another. We should have criteria to decide to buy, where to do it and most importantly, if we really need something, to avoid making unnecessary purchases and not to waste our money.
ReplyDeleteIn my case, I'll try to be more careful and stop spending my money, but do not deny that when I go shopping I feel safe, happy, and even vain, but the girls are right, happiness is something else, or not much just economic.
Trina
I think that the Trina said about TV is true. The TV has been the first resources of entertainment in all houses. Is very difficult go to house of a friend and don’t see any TV, due to this the TV has been the media largest advertising in the last decades.
ReplyDeleteHowever in the last year the Internet and companies like Google has used this media for do advertising and they have successful.
Google is a big corporation with more fifteen thousand employees. The principal resource of this company is the advertising although it is difficult to believe, because almost always we don’t see these advertisements.
Néstor A.
It depends of kind of people that watch these advertisements, they can be either influenced or not. For example, many people go either to eat or to do something while TV shows advertisements.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the article in that today commercials are very amazing; Coca Cola's TV commercials are very creative.
In my case, I like to watch TV commercials, magazine and newspaper advertisements but it doesn't influenced to me. I go to buy when either my family or I need something.
I agree with everybody in that people shouldn't allow that advertisements influenced them.
ReplyDeleteIn general, I agree with Natala and Lucy comments, but, I think all are treating the topic only in one way, let me explain my point of view. The subject is, there are many advertising that support good products and services, like insurance, banking service, medicine, high technologies and interesting place. My point is, we have to considerate the two faces of the coin, it is true, many communications media have used advertising in a wrong way, like Natala and Militza have said. The problem is ethical from the owner of de ad agency and a correct supervision for parents. For example, when we talk about the young people and this topic, we need to understand that they are grown up and need help to make a balance opinion about everything; the advertising is one of them. Parents needs to plant the seed than can be maturity their Childs.
ReplyDeleteFélix
Well Felix, remember that publicists are always looking for the benefits of their clients, and specially in case of toys they try to create a need and manipulate the young minds with the ads, but I think the parents are very important in this situations because they alow or not what to buy and they can teach kids how to buy properly and control their spending habits
ReplyDeleteSometimes people buy something and then they never use it. I normally don´t take care of advertisings unless I´m looking for something I need. When I see a product with a lot of ads I doubt of it because for me the best ads are the customers who can say if a product is good or not.
